Assignment June 23th

 


Reply: Santa Marta is a city located on the Colombian Caribbean coast, is known as the pearl of America for being a city paradise for its beautiful beaches, rivers, waterfalls and its forest that has the Sierra Nevada.

In this city you can perform very risky activities such as climbing the Sierra Nevada where you start with a warm climate to culminate with an icy climate. Another activity is hiking in the Tayrona National Park, something dangerous because of its large and extensive forest full of wild animals.


Reply: In the Colombian Caribbean, is the island of San Andres and Providencia, is a very beautiful place for its beaches and small islands full of corals and many diverse marine flora and fauna. It is not very watery but there are some places which are, as well as the activities of Buzeo or Caretaje to reach the popular Statue of Poseidon underwater.

Reply: The Arvi Park in the city of Medellin, is a natural park, a beautiful forest where there are several activities, but the best is to know and enjoy the beautiful scenery that a person appreciates anywhere.



Reply: In the Colombian Pacific, more specifically in the Choco is located one of the biggest tourist attractions of Colombia and is whale watching in the bay of Nuqui and Gorgona Island.

Assignment June 21th

 


  1. The proposals of the recently elected president seem to me to be very good, in fact too good to be true.
  2. I am in favor of them, because they seek an improvement in Colombia, which if I think they are fulfilled is another thing.


  1. The best advice I can give Mr. gustavo petro is not to let his ideals be corrupted by power and to fulfill his purposes. 
  2. To speak of the present is to speak of the last 22 years, so it is a very bad time because the rulers have not only sought their own benefit and not that of the majority.

Reply: Yes, I like to talk about politics, but in a very objective way, without prejudice about any political coalition.

Is politics a good conversation topic with any person?

Reply: It is not a good topic of conversation for anyone, you should know with whom you are talking about politics, because there are many people who are too subjective about their thinking and believe that there is no other correct one.

Do you consider yourself liberal, conservative, other?

Reply: I consider myself to be in favor of the best, calling a person because they follow certain ideals today does not call them a liberal or a conservative, because at some point that will change.

Assignment June 14th


 

Reply: There is a celebration that commemorates the dead, it is originally from Mexico but it is already important in most countries of America. The Day of the Dead, the celebration has its origins in the indigenous cultures of thousands of years ago, influenced in particular by the Aztecs or Mexicas.

Celebrations vary from region to region, but some elements are universal. People usually place photos of their deceased loved ones on an ofrenda or altar, along with their favorite foods or beverages.

It is commemorated on November 2, when it is believed that the souls of the deceased return to the world of the living. But the celebration usually begins on October 28, and from that date on, each day is dedicated to a different type of death, for example, death by accident or children who died before being baptized. November 1 is All Saints' Day, in honor of those who led a virtuous life, especially children.

Assignment June 13th

Explain when it is worn:

The kimono is the typical dress for solemn events such as weddings, is part of traditional culture such as the tea ceremony or Japanese dance, or of the country's arts such as kabuki theater or "the nō", and is the dress worn by Shinto priests, Buddhist bonzes, geisha and rakugo performers among others.

Explain when it is played:

The "porro" is played in traditional festivals of the Colombian Caribbean coast, but it is common to hear it daily anywhere in this region.

They are consumed in the Caribbean region of Colombia, mainly during the harvest season, which is between January and April.

Explain when it is danced:

Bharatanatyam began to be danced on stage in the 20th century and is today one of the most respected artistic expressions in India.

Tomorrowland

Explain what happens:

Tomorrowland is much more than an electronic party. Of course it is music but it is also fun, friendship, fireworks, partying, dancing, lights and people from all countries partying. The stages and the atmosphere are surrounded by a decoration that simulates a world of magic and fantasy. The festival itself offers a variety of subgenres within electronic music.



Why are traditions/celebrations important?

Reply: They are important because of the significance that some holiday represents in a person's life, whether it is a religious holiday or a celebratory holiday. All that matters is the meaning in people's lives. 

Why do people keep traditions alive?

To keep traditions alive is to commemorate the things we believe in and make us happy, to remember our past and not forget what we are thanks to the people/gods/events of the past.

 Today the main theme of the class was "holydays and traditions" so we studied the main festivities of some countries by means of the following exercises:

First we practice the grammar on the specific topic, putting it into practice with a short conversation which we repeat after listening to the audio. 




We did a short activity to restructure some sentences

Questions on the topic given in class:

What are some plans you had to chage because of the pandemic?

Reply: I was ready to go on an exchange program in Argentina, more specifically in Mar de Plata.

Tell us about a plan or intention you had in the past but changed, and but changed.

Reply: In my first semester of law school I wanted to specialize in civil law or labor law, but now that I have more knowledge in other areas and branches of law, I want to specialize in administrative law.
